With Bali Hai Pier partially closed for renovation and the mourning period for HM the late King still in effect, Pattaya’s plans for celebrating HM the Queen’s birthday are, at best, uncertain.

Noppasitcha Na Nakorn, director of educational promotion, announced plans for an Aug. 12 commemoration of the Queen’s 85th birthday at City Hall, when, beginning at 17.00 hrs., flower cones will be presented to HM the Queen’s portrait, candles and incense would be lit, and prayers made.

Komkrit Niraphan, head of the Children and Youth Activity Office, acknowledged that the city originally planned to do nothing for the birthday, given the ban on jovial celebrations for a year after HM King Bhumibol’s death, but went ahead with the city hall idea for now.

However, he said, the city has yet to receive a letter from the government approving the celebration, so it may or may not happen.
