Pathum Thani officials touted their province’s hospitality services at a tourism-promotion event in Pattaya.

Pinit Maneerat represented the city at the July 28 “Pathumthani Story Dinner Talk @Pattaya” event at the Garden Seaview Resort. The “talk” was a presentation on the Central province’s hospitality services, comparison of products and new tourist attractions.

Chamaiporn Kwanthong, commerce chief for Pathum Thani, and business owners from the province gave a briefing on history and geography, and highlighted offerings that would be of interested to Pattaya-area residents.

Bordered by Ayutthaya, Chachoengsao, Nakhon Nayok, Nonthaburi and Saraburi, the province is considered part of the Bangkok metropolitan area, but has a different look, with 186 temples and parks.

The city dates back to a settlement founded by Mon migrating from Mottama in Myanmar around 1650. The original name was “Sam Khok”. In 1815, King Rama II visited the city and the citizens offered him many lotus flowers, which prompted the king to rename the city Pathum Thani, meaning “the lotus flower town”.

Pathum Thani has a very high concentration of higher education institutions, especially ones in the field of science and technology. This, together with a large number of industrial parks and research facilities make the region the educational and technology hub of the area.

Furthermore, the province is known to house and breed giant gourami fish as well as shrimp. It also has plans to drive the digital economy for the future so it can be on par with other major destinations.
