Fasten your seatbelts

Editor;

Thank you for the excellent newspaper! Please allow me a few comments to the article, “American flight underscores hazards posed by turbulence”, August 28, 2017.

In the whole of aviation history, more or less serious incidents as described are well known. They happen often. The last serious incident occurred May 1, 2017, where at least 27 people were injured on an Aeroflot flight from Moscow to Bangkok. The aircraft hit heavy turbulence about 40 minutes before landing. 24 injured were taken to hospital, several seriously injured.

Most passenger aircrafts are equipped with weather radar. The cockpit crew get weather information from the meteorological office before flight, and the weather radar transmits weather info during the flight. Still, incidents as described occur. The cockpit crew has no time to warn the passengers. It means that the weather can change dramatically without any warning.

Cockpit crew uses seat belts during the flight to avoid, for example, personal injuries to turbulence. Passengers can simply do the same to avoid personal injuries – use the seat belts during the flight. But unfortunately, most passengers are ignorant, or they don’t care.

For information, – I would highly appreciate inquiries related to Aviation/Law Enforcement/Undesirable incidents.

Sincerely,
