Tuesday, August 22, Pattana – Stableford
A permanent on our monthly schedule, this course can be a real toughie, however the quality of the clubhouse there and the friendliness of the staff make it a must visit.
The course was busy but we got away on time and teed off on the C nine first, to followed by the A nine.
The rough was really punitive today and really difficult to get out of. By the end we were all tired out and really needed a cold shower.
Back at BJ’s we got into the results and they showed that two golfers had 35 points but the winner on count back was Brian Gabe, with Mashi taking second. In third place was Brian Parish with 34 points and fourth went to John Davis with 32.
Friday, August 25, Mt. Shadow – Stableford
It was ‘moving day’ for the Tropical Golfers as this was the last round before the duel golfer of the month and monthly mug contest. If you wanted to move up the standings to have a chance to win GOM, this was the day. It was not going to be easy though as the destination was Mountain Shadow – always a tough one. With that in mind seventeen golfers showed up to make the move – if they could.
The layout at Mt. Shadow is tough and tricky but overall the course condition is currently good-fair, and the greens were quite nice. The already intimidating layout was mad harder by the fact that the rough was extra long and swallowed more than a few balls. Final scores showed that sometimes you fight the course and the course wins! Still, not everyone was beaten into submission.
Only one player kept his head in A-Flight (0-19) and seriously challenged the course, and that was John Davis (c/h 15) who had the best score of the day with an impressive 35 points. This puts JD in first place for the race. Next came John Hall (16) with 28 points and then Mashi Kaneta (16) over double count back loser Steve Truelove at 27 points.
In B-Flight (20+), Brian Gabe (20) had the second best score of the day and won his flight with 31 points. Next came the departing Reg Cochrane (24) and Ronnie Ratte (20) who were surprised to be called with 26 points. You just never know!
The best half rounds for non-winners went to Tom Herrington and Walter Baechli.
