Chonburi Gov. Pakarathorn Thienchai visited flooding victims around Muang District after heavy rains deluged the homes of residents, primarily in Ang Sila and Samet.

The governor and Army Col. Tasanai Prathumthong led Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department workers and volunteers around the two sub-districts, finding most roads still heavily flooded and homes in low-lying areas badly damaged.

Vehicle access to parts of Samet was impossible and many businesses were closed.

Blocked drains were blamed for the severity of the flooding and Pakaratorn ordered workers to clear them immediately, as well as provide food, drinking water and other necessities to those affected.

The governor noted rainy season is continuing and that if the drainage issues are not solved, there will be more severe flooding.

Sub-district authorities were told to be on standby at all times and prepare pumps and other facilities in case of future flooding.

There is also a risk of landslides and forest floods since Chonburi has many mountains and trees.
