Pattaya will host the Thai film industry’s version of the Oscars on March 6 as the Suphanahong Awards celebrate their 20th anniversary at Central Festival Pattaya Beach.  The festive event, starting at 3 p.m., will feature live outdoor music, prize drawings, and film screenings.  The awards ceremony itself, featuring many of Thailand’s top movie stars and celebrities, will be held at the SFX Cinema complex on the sixth floor of the shopping mall.

The Lighthouse Club Pattaya will be holding its latest corporate-networking event at Drift (16th floor) of the Hilton Hotel in Pattaya on Friday, March 4 starting at 6 p.m.  Admission is THB 300 for all ladies and voucher-members, THB 600 for all non-members.  A finger-food buffet and a free-flow of beer and wine sponsored by Global Solidor Property Insurance will be available as long as stock lasts.  After 8:30 p.m. Drift offers on all drinks on a “Buy-1, Get-1 Free” basis.  Lighthouse Club Pattaya is supporting the Melissa Cosgrove Children’s Foundation to set up childcare centers in construction worker camps.  For more information go to www.lighthousepattaya.com.

The Northstar Library in Pattaya will be holding a second-hand book festival on Saturday March 5th and Sunday March 6th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  All are welcome to buy, sell and exchange books at this fair.  There will also be many games for children.  The library is located on Sukhumvit Road between Central and North Pattaya Roads.  Call 038-716755 or 081-5754854 (Kh. Austcham will hold an Eastern Seaboard Sundowners networking event at the Amari Resort & Tower in Pattaya on Friday, March 11 from 6.00 p.m. – 9.00 p.m.  All are welcome and the admission cost for members is 400 baht and for non-members 850 baht.  For more information go to website www.austchamthailand.com.

The Pattaya International Music Festival 2011 will take place from March 18-20 at Bali Hai Pier and stages along Pattaya Beach Road.  Details of the list of performers has yet to be confirmed but expect to see a star studded cast list from the best in Thai pop and rock music along with some notable international acts.  The weekend jamboree of music will also feature food vendors, merchants and games along with dance areas with some of Asia’s best DJ’s.  More details will follow as and when they are released by the festival organizers.

Clubs and Associations

The next meeting of the Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC) will be on Sunday, March 6.  Everyone is warmly welcome.  The Club meets every Sunday morning at the Tavern by the Sea Restaurant located on the north end of Beach Road (part of the Amari Orchid Resort).  The program starts as usual at 10:30 a.m. with a buffet breakfast available from 9 to 11 a.m.  Each week the PCEC usually has an interesting speaker to talk on various subjects of interest in an informal setting.  The program is followed by the ever lively and often humorous Open Forum where questions are asked and answers given about living in Pattaya as well as an update on events in and around Pattaya.  A full report appears each week in Pattaya Mail.  For more information about the Sunday meeting and the numerous other weekday activities of the PCEC, see the Club’s website at www. pattayacityexpatsclub.com and learn more about the many and varied activities of the Club.

For the past 28 years the Samaritans of Thailand have been providing confidential crisis intervention services over the telephone.  The English-speaking unit, Samaritans English Help Line operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide support to the expatriate community.  English-speaking staff, trained in crisis intervention will provide active, non-judgmental and empathetic listening services on the phone.  All calls will be handled on an anonymous basis and are free of charge.  Please call (02) 713-6791 (24hrs a day, 7 days a week).
