Police are searching for a foreign couple captured on video stealing a gold chain from a Pattaya store.
Tithirath Chaiboontan, owner of the gold shop in North Pattaya’s Tesco Lotus mall, shared the security camera footage with the media Sept. 3 after filing a police report.
The video showed a well-dressed foreign couple inquire about two 3-baht-weight gold chains worth about 60,000 baht each. In the video, the woman distracts the sales clerk while the man slips one chain into a bag.
Tithirath said the woman then said she wanted to buy one chain with a credit card, but when the clerk said 3 percent would be added to the price, the woman said she’d get the cash from an ATM instead.
The two successfully escaped with one chain in their bag.
Investigators said it appeared the thieves had pulled the same job elsewhere as they appeared quite experienced.
