Monday, Sept. 4, Phoenix Gold – Stableford
Phoenix today, playing Lakes and Ocean loops and the course was in great condition but the rough was brutal.
We had four groups playing and the scores were quite good, with Thiery Temine taking third spot with 35 points, John Anderson recording an even par 36 for second and Alan Cassin posting a best of the day 37 points to take the win.
There was only one ‘2’, coming from Bill Marsden.
Wednesday, Sept. 6, Green Valley – Stableford
After many weeks away we returned to the newly repaired Green Valley. Some fairways still resemble a patchwork quilt with new grass replacing the broad leafed variety, but when the rain reaches a conclusion in November we should see the fruit of all the efforts put in by the greens staff.
Nine groups set off today but surprisingly there were only 2 golfers that played to their handicap, perhaps it was the speed of the greens following last week’s tournament.
Miss Eng, there or thereabouts every week recently, missed out to Miss Ooh, who overcame the problems of having 3 blobs, on 35 points for second place, with Miss Som well clear on 39 points to take the plaudits.
Wayne Cotterell (34 points) finished like an express train, culminating with a birdie on the 18th to relegate Selwyn Wegner to fourth place. William Macey was hindered by consecutive blobs on the back-nine to record 35 points, one behind John Deardon who came home with 36 for the win.
We had five ‘2’s today, from Miss Som, Miss Pen, Paul Hack, Greig Ritchie and William Macey.
Friday, Sept. 8, Burapha – Stableford
After some intense negotiations we teed off on the A and B loops at Burapha with 5 groups. The course is in fantastic condition and the greens were very consistent and true.
There was a count back for third and fourth places with Alan Cassin taking the last spot on the podium and A J Beasley taking third, both on 35 points. Gerard Lambert took second place with 37 points and the Boy from Darwin, Jason Gale, grabbed the top spot with a 40 point haul, a great round of golf.
There were two ‘2’s, coming from Gerard Lambert and Alan Cassin, both on the same hole.
