Deputy Mayor Suwat Ratchathawattanakul opened the first meeting of the panel aimed at developing leadership skills in area children Sept. 8.

The government in June ordered districts and sub-districts to organize youth councils to promote and support all children and encourage them to participate in self-development and community development by allowing them to offer their opinions.

Twenty students were selected from Nernplabwan, Wat Boonsamphan, Wat Sutthawat, Sawang Boriboon, Baan Tungklom, Wat Khao Phothong, Nongprue Community and Pattaya Redemptorist schools, Nongprue Kindergarten and the Baan Khru Jaa center.

In the first session, Kriengkrai Kankamjat from Burapa University laid out the young councilors’ mission: To mirror the Nongprue Council and offer their opinions on development of the community. Their advice will not be binding, but will be considered by the adults in making decisions for the sub-district.
