The Golf Club weekly review

Monday, Sept. 11, Green Valley (white tees) – Stableford

1st Mark Wood (11) 39pts

T2nd Aki Yamamoto (19) 36pts

T2nd Kevin Woods (20) 36pts

Green Valley is back in the great shape is used to be.  The recent rains have improved the turf considerably and the fairways are pretty much patch free these days.  The greens were outstanding

A decent comp of 16 today with some familiar names back in town and regular visitors also returning.  Overcast skies made for a comfortable round of golf.  Owen Lloyd joined us today and claimed our Caddy Smile near pin.

Aki Yamamoto (our April MM winner) is back and the leaderboard saw him sandwiched between a Wood and a Woods.  Aki-san and Kevin the latter shared second spot with 36 on the card.  Our buddy Markie is in top form after a month back home in Scotland.  Golf is so much easier without that 40 mph breeze.

Tuesday, Sept. 12, Treasure Hill (yellow tees) – Stableford

1st Jimmy Brackett (6) 31pts

2nd David Outhred (15) 29pts

3rd Richard Cawthorne (9) 28pts

Only a couple of fourballs out there today as previous nights’ rain may have kept some of the lads under the covers.  Treasure Hill is a Tom Jones kind of golf course, and blobbing the first two holes here is not unusual.

It was another overcast day, but more humid than before and when you combine a wet course with a 6,470 yard tee box, the points are hard to come by.

Richard Cawthorne plays off 9 but could only gather 28 points today.  David Outhred had one better for sole second at 29 but the day’s winner was Jimmy “The Entertainer” Brackett who shot 31 for best in show.

Thursday, Sept. 14, Pattana B & C
(yellow tees) – Stableford

1st Kevin Woods (19) 36pts

2nd Jimmy Brackett (6) 32pts

3rd David Outhred (16) 31pts

Next stop on this week’s tour, the very impressive Pattana Sport Club just off the 331 highway.  This is one of Pattaya’s top golf courses and features 27 holes of pure joy.  We played under clear skies, for a change, with a few puffy white clouds that made for a picture postcard setting.

Scoring was modest for a 6,374 yard track with only one golfer matching his handicap.  The usual suspects were in the line-up.

Dave Outhred took third with 31, ‘The Entertainer’ walked away with second and 32 on the card whilst Kevin Woods ruled the roost with 36 for the outright win.  Oh, and young Kev also managed our Caddy Smile near pin on the 2nd for a nice little Brucie Bonus!

Friday, Sept. 15, Silky Oaks (white tees) – Stableford

1st Charles Murray (4) 40pts

2nd Alex Tregurtha (18) 34pts

3rd Barry Tregurtha (19) 33pts

Just when you thought it was safe, Barry, his son Alex, and Charles rolled into town and carved up the entire leaderboard, between them.

Like everywhere these days, the course was wet underfoot, but we were lucky with a nice breeze and slight overcast to make the day a good one.

I had the good fortune of partnering with Charles on a Mulberry Ryder Cup to Chiang Mai a few years back, but he did not with me.  Charles is a strong player and I am not surprised at all that he took the win here today.  Alex beat dad, but Big Daddy Baz got third (and the last laugh) as his near pin put him good for even more bitcoins!
