Monday, Sept. 18, Hua Hin – Stableford

On Monday the golfers took on the Parichat course which always offers decent challenge and very few players hit their handicap. This day was no exception and David Deira was to find that his 31 points was good enough to take third place.
Just beating him was Norihito Takeoka in second while the winner of the day was Bill Reid who managed to score 33 off his 12 handicap. Once again Parichat proved to be the winner.
Tuesday, Sept. 19, Phoenix Gold – Stableford
1st Laurence Lee (23) 36pts
2nd Klaus Fast (2) 36pts
3rd Trevor Oliver (12) 33pts
Today the group made the short trip to Phoenix Gold and Trevor Oliver, the recent Hua Hin tour winner, was on the podium again in third place with 33 points.
The man who consistently shoots his handicap is Klaus Fast. Even when paying off 2 it doesn’t appear to faze him and his 36 points was good enough for second today. The winner came in the shape of Laurence Lee, playing off a healthy handicap of 23, who just managed to pip Klaus on count-back.
Wednesday, Sept. 20, Emerald G.C. – Stableford
1st Alex Fenwick (17) 35pts
2nd Seamus Farrel (26) 33pts
3rd Gerard Shannon (11) 31pts
Emerald was the destination on Wednesday and the course played to true form, giving nothing away.
There was a shoot-out between 3 players for third as they all finished on 31 points. The prize went to Gerrard Shannon who managed to edge out Bill Reid and boss Derek Thorogood.
Seamus Farrel scored an exquisite 33 points and this was good for the silver but the winning score of 35 points came from Alex Fenwick who managed his first win at the golf group in 14 attempts.
Thursday, Sept. 21, Silky Oak – Stableford
1st Jack Mooney (22) 43pts
2nd Jugn Goudge (7) 39pts
3rd Trevor Oliver (12) 38pts
Thursday saw the TRGG visiting Silky Oaks on a beautiful still listless day. With the course in near perfect condition the day was tailor made for high scoring.
Kerry Langlands has been in great form in recent weeks and he was once again able to take advantage of the opportunity, his 37 points giving him fourth place. Another man having a hot streak is Trevor Oliver and his 38 was good enough for third, just being beaten by John Goudge who shot a fantastic 39.
The elder statesman of the society, “Papa Jack” was having one of those days and 25 points on the front 9 set him up for a magnificent 43 points overall.
Friday, Sept. 22, Burapha – Stableford
Division 1
1st Kerry Langlands (11) 40pts
2nd Paul Hansberry (11) 39pts
3rd Klaus Fast (2) 38pts
Division 2
1st Jim Cooper (16) 39pts
2nd Aoki Toshihiro (23) 35pts
3rd Laurence Lee (23) 34pts
Our visit to Burupha coincided with it being the last day for the golfers from Wannaroo before departing home. In celebration a match was arranged between them and the TRGG resulting in at 4-2 victory to the Perth boys with the only surprise being that it wasn’t 6-0.
Alongside this event ran the normal competition and once again the A and B courses proved to be popular. In division 1, Klaus Fast went round in level par gross to record 38 points and take third place, just being beaten by the ever-consistent Paul Hansberry. The score of the day came from Kerry Langlands whose 40 points saw him take the top prize.
In division 2 Laurence Lee shot 34 points to take third and Aoki Toshihiro scored one point better for second place. However, there is no stopping Jim Cooper when he plays in the lower divisions and his 39 points gave him a comfortable winning margin.
