After a couple of quiet games, Bob Watson came out all guns blazing this day to tear up the course and finish well clear of the rest.  41 points from a handicap 5 is worth writing about.

At the other end of the spectrum, Derek Phillips from handicap 27 put together another good round to finish second with 35 points on a count-back over the very consistent Adam Barton.

Greenwood was presented in its usual excellent condition with, of course, the usual dampness around the greens.  However the greens did run well, and apart from a couple which had been recently cored, performed to expectations.

There was a three-way count-back to decide the wearer of the “wig” and Maurice Roberts got it.

Best front and back nines for non-winners came from Vero Morgan (21pts) and John Anderson (17pts) respectively.

Wednesday, Sept. 20, Pattavia – Stableford

A Flight

1st Bob Watson (5) 39pts

2nd Andrew Blackman (9) 39pts

3rd Mike Allidi (3) 35pts

B Flight

1st Colin Service (20) 40pts

2nd Barry Elphick (25) 37pts

3rd John Edwards (14) 34pts

Pattavia hosted a large group of Links golfers on Wednesday and the course was in excellent order, although softened by recent rains.  Bunkers were well tended but the greens, so often the “defence” of the course, were a real let-down. They were slower than expected and unevenly cut.

The field was divided into two flights cut at twelve and the top flight showed low-marker Mike Allidi in third place with 35 points.  A count-back relegated Andrew Blackman’s 39 points to second place with the flight winner again being Bob Watson with an impressive gross of 74.

In the second flight similar scores saw John Edwards take third place with 34 points, three behind Barry Elphick’s 37 in second.  The winner with the best points haul of the day was Colin Service and his 40 points was his best score since relocating to Pattaya six months ago.

Back at the presentation the consolation prizes went to John Pierrel for his best front nine of 19 points and Lee Leppor for the best back nine of 18.  The wig went to Len Jones after the inconsistency of his iron play left him one point short of the other candidates for the “honour”.
