A stormy week ended for the Pattaya Links Golf Society at Eastern Star on Friday, 13th (yes!) of October, when the group squelched into a deluge after four holes to compete a stableford competition. Skies were heavy at the start and a wet day was assured, following on from an abandoned exercise at Pattana only two days before.
A hold-up of more than an hour saw more sensible souls abandon all thoughts of continuing, leaving two groups to finish on a course which was in excellent condition, and remained so, even after the storm. Greens were quick, fairways well-grassed and bunkers were well tended. Only one grouch however… why does the course allow carts to traverse the fairways and flooded rough in such conditions?
Of those who finished, Len Jones levelled the back nine to finish in fourth with 30 points, just a couple behind Bob Watson’s 32. There was nothing between the top two and a count-back was required to separate the duo, with Maurice Roberts losing out to Irishman Larry Slattery, both on 33 points.
