His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn has presided over a merit-making ceremony for the royal relics of His Majesty the late King Rama IX at the Grand Palace.
At approximately 7:30 pm Saturday, Oct. 28, His Majesty the King arrived at Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall in the Grand Palace in order to host the making of merit for the royal relics of his royal father, His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The ceremony came one day after the collection and transfer of the royal relics from the Royal Crematorium in Sanam Luang to the Throne Hall.
To commence the merit-making ceremony, His Majesty lit candles and incense sticks to pay respects to the reliquary urn containing the royal relics and the Buddha image representing the royal birthday of the late monarch. He then offered ceremonial fans to a chapter of Buddhist monks before they recited holy scripts and funeral excerpts for the deceased.
After a Dharma session conducted by the chief monk, His Majesty presented the participating monks with saffron robes and other offerings. The monks then chanted blessings for His Majesty and departed the Throne Hall.
