This is our home course and the condition is getting better every week. Today she was a little wet in places, so another ‘lift, clean and place’ day in the short grass. A strong turnout of 28 golfers said the high season is getting near.
A trio of 36’s tied for third place on the podium, and our ol’ mate Gary Emmett did them all just one shot better for sole second on 37. It was a one-two finish for Gary and best mate Steve Coughlan who had an excellent round of 39 points.
Tuesday, Oct. 24, Treasure Hill (white tees) – Stableford
1st Richard Kings (28) 32pts
2nd Frank Tordeur (15) 30pts
3rd Kenny Aihara (6) 29pts
After an absence of some 5 months, Kenny Aihara has finally returned for some more of our Antigua Monthly Medal shirts. Today he had only 29 points but good enough for a podium finish!
Another bloke just back, Frank Tordeur, took second on 30 points with the big boy Richard Kings a winner with just 32 on the card. Not surprising, this Treasure Hill track is narrow and difficult and to shoot your handicap here is quite an achievement.
Another contented camper was Daniel Velloff, taking the near pin.
Thursday, Oct. 26, Laem Chabang A & B (white tees) – Stableford
1st Steve Hogan (20) 38pts
2nd Wayne Bridgeman (6) 37pts
3rd John Robinson (12) 36pts
People forget about the legacy of Laem Chabang. This has been one of the best golf courses in Asia (Golf Digest) for 25 years and certainly deserves the accolades. Even in the wet as it was today, the guys were raving about this course.
Visiting Steve Hogan took the win with a nifty 38 on the card. Wayne Bridgeman on 37 and John Robinson with 36 secured a numerically perfect podium.
Friday, Oct. 27,
Khao Kheow B & C (yellow tees) – Stableford
1st Rob Knight (13) 39pts
2nd Frank Tordeur (15) 34pts
3rd Bob McFarlane (13) 33pts
After all these months, the “B” course here has finally reopened! It is such a great track and the torment of the par-3 eighth hole is back at last. Condition here was exceptional given all the rain we have had lately. We reckon the yardage was close to 6,450 from the yellows and shooting a 39 here was a fantastic round.
That is just what our Kiwi Rob Knight did and what a way to end your holiday in Thailand. Rob has been with us for the last several weeks and a favourite customer of the T.G.C. staff (and not just because of all the drinks he buys them.) Always a smile on his face, always with a joke at hand, get back soon Robbo!
