Many families, both foreign and Thai, brought their own beach mats and foldable chairs to enjoy the sun and sea. Others played beach volleyball, swam or ran around.

There has been a debate whether the no beach chair and umbrella days benefit the community, with the majority of vendors claiming no one comes out on Wednesdays when they don’t have shade.

On Nov. 1, at least, they were wrong. Most Thais don’t rent chairs anyway, nor do families getting together for picnics. So the beach is offering something for everyone during any one week.

Jomtien area offers a lot of shops as well, which is convenient for those who wish to have cold drinks or food from nearby restaurants. There also now is plenty of parking on Jomtien, making bringing chairs and mats easier.
