Photisampan students win ‘Dharma on Time’ Buddhism quiz

Students from Photisampan Pittayakarn School won 25,000 baht in the Diana Garden Resort’s latest “Dharma on Time” Buddhism quiz show.

Noppasit Cha Nakhon of the Pattaya Education Department and Diana Group Managing Director Sopin Thappajug opened the eighth dharma quiz televised on local cable TV Nov. 7-9.

Teams from 10 area schools listened to a sermon from Surasak Poonnuwuthto, a political science professor who also is an expert in Buddhist scripture, before answering questions about the content and meaning of the lecture.

Teams were split into two topics for the first round, with Srisuwit, Banglamung schools, and Pattaya schools 1 and 8 competing on “conscience”, while city schools 4, 7, 11; Photisampan, and the Redemptorist Vocational School for Persons with Disabilities answering questions on “cognizance”. Deputy Banglamung Dean of Monks Tavorn Tanawaro administered the questions.

The 10 contenders were cut to four for the final round: Redemptorist, Photisampan, Banglamung and Pattaya School No. 8. Sopin and top executives from Sophon Cable TV posed the queries.

Banglamung School finished second for 20,000 baht while the runners-up each received 15,000 baht. School No. 8 also received 3,000 baht for the best cheerleading while all the top four teams’ cheering section received 1,000 baht scholarships.
