2nd Mark Wood (10) 39pts

3rd Mark Watkins (22) 38pts

4th Mike Holmes (14) 37pts

5th Jim Bell (20) 36pts

Near Pins: No 8 Mick Beresford, No 16 Jim Elphick.

It was back to Green Valley for our regular stint, the course was in fine condition and the weather was unusually cold and with a slight, rather cold breeze.

Paul ‘the thunder from down under’ Hack made good use of his knowledge, together with a fair amount of skill, to shoot a tremendous 41 points and take the first competition of the week over what is probably the most played course in the Pattaya area.

Mark Wood’s fine effort of 39 points took the second step on the podium and he was one stroke clear of Mark Watkins and a further stroke clear of Mike Holmes.  Jim ‘AK-47’ Bell again proved to be as steady as ever as he strolled round playing exactly to his handicap to close the flight.

Tuesday, Nov. 7, Green Valley – Stableford

1st Jim Bell (20) 39pts

2nd Tony Oakes (17) 38pts

3rd Billy Eyles (23) 37pts

4th Barry Copestake (19) 34pts

A relatively modest group returned to Green Valley to play a stableford match and the Brits took full charge of the podium, filling all four steps.  Top spot went to Jim ‘AK-47 Bell’ who has just returned from Australia (Jim was born in England I might add) with a splendid 39 points.  Tony “the glove” Oakes, still eager for press coverage, filled the second slot a shot back and was in turn a stroke clear of pay window specialist Billy “the hat” Eyles.  This left Barry “the boot” Copestake to round out the flight.

When you think about it, it should be no surprise that the Brits did so well after considering it was a doctor DFBG Stableford, a doctor in the medical corps who devised the scoring system in 1898 to keep down frustration levels in golf.  He felt many players in adverse weather conditions got very little fun since they tore up their cards after a few holes.  His idea has certainly stood the test of time, but it doesn’t seem to have cured the tearing up of cards after a few holes.
