A sustainable-agricultural project launched to honor HM the late King is generating sweet returns on Nong Plalai.

Banglamung District Chief Naris Niramaiwong and top deputies visited the melon farm in Nong Plalai 1 village Nov. 8, checking on how the 90101 Project is coming along.

The Cabinet in July allocated 22.9 billion baht to register 4.5 million poor farmers nationwide and stimulate the economy by stressing HM King Rama IX’s sustainable economy philosophy.

The 9101 project aims to cut production costs, increase output and upgrade agricultural standards by employing at least 50 percent of the workers from communities where it’s based.

Banglamung proposed thirty 9101 projects, which began in August in Nong Plalai Moo 1, 2, 3, 8 and 9 villages. In Moo 1, the melon crop is growing nicely with harvest expected next month.

The fruit is expected to sell well and give the village economy a boost.

Future plans calls for the establishment of a learning center and transforming the farm into a tourist attraction.
