Two hotel maids have been arrested for allegedly stealing about 50,000 baht worth of various currencies from Russian guests at a Wong Amat Beach inn.
Sutthirak Toloy, 41, and Sudarat Padjantuk, 25, were captured at the Pattaya Waste Collection Station where one of their husbands works Nov. 14. Police recovered 8,300 baht in Russian rubles, US$200 and 12,000 baht in Thai banknotes, less than half that was reported missing by tourist Alexander Mamichev.
Mamichev said he and his wife returned to their Wongamat Privacy Residence room and found their rubles and dollars gone and called police. Officers checked security cameras and identified the housekeepers as suspects.
Police said the two women – arrested previously for theft – confessed and implicated a third maid, Natamon Yingkamhang, 31 of Nong Bua Lam Phu, who is now on the run.
The two maids told police they didn’t think the Russians would notice the missing money.
