The Golf Club review

Monday, Nov. 13, Green Valley (white tees) – Stableford

1st Bob Mulholland (8) 42pts

T-2nd Mark Wood (9) 40pts

T-2nd Peter LeNoury (15) 40pts

T-4th Gary Emmett (14) 38pts

T-4th Frank Tordeur (18) 38pts

Overcast skies were most welcome as our vans took off for Green Valley one more time.  Greens here are back to their best, but I still can’t get over that inexcusable palm tree culling.

Today was the last round for our mate Frank Tordeur, who heads back home after several podium finishes over the last 3 weeks.  Frank got another one today in a big field of 28 with a 38 on the card.

Just getting back in town, Bob Mulholland started off his trip with a 42 point winner.  Talk about hitting the ground running!

Sandwiched between them, locals Mark Wood and Pete LeNoury tied on 40 points with Gary Emmett 2 shots back to tie with Frank for fourth.

Tuesday & Wednesday, Nov. 14-15, Kabinburi S.C. – 2-Man BB

Another trip up north gave us a chance to visit with our pal Oliver Daniel and to stay at his fabulous Serenity Hotel.  The Kabinburi Sport Club was host to the 2-man betterball organized superbly by our mate Neil Carter whose M-Club is home to the Bunker Boys.  Paul Hack also brought some of the Darksider lads up for our 46-man tournament over the two days.

There was no rain at all (surprisingly) on the course and while Pattaya was getting drenched, we were high and dry… literally!  I mean, there’s no point in going up there without a poolside wine and cheese party, is there?

Getting to the numbers, as Agent 86 might say… would you believe a 92?  That was the tally Paul Hack and partner Dave Stockman posted for a convincing two-day win.  We had a slew of technical prizes and a fantastic BBQ buffet dinner to add to the great atmosphere of the event.

Friday, Nov. 17, Khao Kheow A & C (yellow tees) – Stableford

1st Franjo Blazevic (6) 42pts

2nd Bob Mulholland (8) 41pts

3rd Kenny Aihara (6) 35pts

Yes that is correct, the yellow tees.  I guess Phil was feeling like his driver would be working today as the event at Khao Kheow was over 6,400 yards.  For me, driver- three-wood would have been the mantra for all but the par-3’s and being a bit on the damp side, the “plays like” factor would be closer to 6,700 yards.

The long hitters ruled the roost today as pro Franjo took first place with his new clubs finally out of the bag.  Last weekend, he and fiancée Kathy tied the knot at a beachside resort past Jomtien so all the very best for your future together mate!

He won the previous Friday at Pattavia and today came in third with 35 points, Kenny Aihara is back to his old form.

We can’t leave without mentioning the winner of the Caddy Smile near pin, and that went to our pal Mitch Black. Yes, Mitch finally wins something!
