Monday morning dawned grey and overcast, which may have accounted for some of our members giving golf a miss. Nevertheless, a good field of twenty-one players made the trip to Emerald for the first game of the week. The round was relatively rain-free with only the slightest shower falling and the course was in good shape but a little soft, so the ‘pick, clean and place’ rule was applied. The rough had not been cut for a while and had grown up quite a bit so play from there was a challenge.
The winner of the A flight with thirty-six points was Stuart Tinkler, followed by Keith Norman on thirty-five and Colin Greig with thirty-four. In the B flight, Phil Moore prevailed with thirty-five points followed by Ken Davidson in second on count-back from Dave Gow, both on thirty-three.

A smaller than expected group of seventeen golfers participated in the mid-week game at the difficult Mountain Shadow course. Conditions for golf were perfect with temperatures moderate, no wind, and a course for the most part in excellent condition with the exception of a few bunkers in need of a bit of T.L.C., grass growing on some and all in need of a good raking.
Phil Moore, continuing his recent run of good form took the honors with a score of thirty-nine points off a generous handicap of eighteen, an excellent score on this course. Second was Ken Davidson, also in good form and putting like a demon with a score of thirty-five, another who may feel the lash of the handicapper’s scalpel. Stuart Tinkler took third with thirty-four and Richard Baldotto brought up the rear with thirty-one.

A good field of nineteen made the trip to Pleasant Valley for the last game of the week. The course was in good order except for two or three greens which were showing signs of wear.
Play got underway on time but over the course of the front nine one of our groups was guilty of very slow play and by the ninth had lost a full three holes on the group in front of them. Unless some players can keep up a reasonable pace of play they risk being put out last every time they play.
Today scoring was of a very high standard with the winner Stuart Tinkler in sparkling form, recording a score of forty-two points. Geoff Parker returned to form with forty-one to take second place, Gerry Cooney was third with thirty-eight and at least three players were locked together on thirty-six, the honors going to Dave Gow on count-back.
