Nakhon Si Thammarat – Many areas of the southern region are still coping with floods with Nakhon Si Thammarat reporting critical levels of water in several districts and its airport threatened with inundation.
Waters in Nakhon Si Thammarat have been rising rapidly and local officials have had to erect a sandbag barrier around the airport’s runway to ensure services can continue. Military personnel are now facilitating travel to and from the airport.
In the province’s Ta Sala district, waters have reached a depth of close to 1 meter and have rushed into Ta Sala Hospital’s first floor, prompting staff to move equipment and medicine to the building’s second floor. The facility is nonetheless still operating normally.
In Surat Thani, waters have severed roads and washed away the Wang Takian Bridge.
The situation has continued to worsen in Phattalung province with mountain runoff reported in almost every area of its Muang district. Waters have broken through a dyke and inundated three sub-districts.
Asia Road 41 in Chumporn province, which is the main roadway leading into the southern region, has been submerged in 20-30 centimeters of water in some stretches. Vehicles have had to slow down significantly to make their way through the province.
The Meteorological Department has forecast more rain in the southern region, affecting Chumporn, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phattalung and Songkhla. The situation overall is still a reason for extreme caution for both citizens on land and boats traveling out to sea.
