Monday, Dec. 4, Khao Kheow – Stableford

With 37 golfers in attendance the difficulty of the Khao Kheow course was reflected in the fact that only 4 players managed to scores 36 or more points. In fact 20 of the players failed to reach 30 points so many golfers found this a tough day out.
In division 2, Rod Ewan’s 33 points were good enough for third spot while in second came Shigeki Toyoshima with 37. The winner of the day came in the shape of Colin Smith with a fine score of 38 points.
Paul Durkan took third place in division 1 with a hard earned 32 points and the evergreen Alan Thomas once again proved to be the model of consistency with a level par round for the silver. Just beating Alan by virtue of a stronger back 9 was Ito Atikoshi who took the top prize.
Tuesday, Dec. 5,
The Emerald – Stableford
1st Norman Cheetham (16) 36pts
2nd Alistair Walker (12) 33pts
3rd John Baxter (19) 33pts
Emerald specialist John Baxter is always a contender when visiting Bang Chang and his 33 points secured the bronze position today, just losing out to Alistair Walker on count-back.
“Storming Norman” Cheetham was in town and produce a fine round of 36 points, to win the day.
Wednesday, Dec. 6, Parichat – Stableford
1st Rod Ewan (13) 34pts
2nd Mike Rushant (11) 32pts
3rd Norm Cheetham (15) 30pts
Norman Cheetham, fresh from the previous evening’s victory celebrations shot 30 points to take third place today at Parichat. Mike Rushant also claimed a podium spot as his 32 points were good enough for second.
The winner of the day came in the shape of Rod Ewan and his 34 points were good enough to give him his first victory in 9 outings at the society.
Thursday, Dec. 7, Phoenix Gold – Stableford
1st Mike Rushant (11) 37pts
2nd Ted Senior (16) 33pts
3rd Norman Cheetham (15) 32pts
Seemingly affected by the heat today, the player’s scores certainly did not reflect the course conditions at Phoenix.
Norman Cheetham’s great week continued as his 32 points took third spot and Ted Senior managed to go one better for second place. Mike Rushant is renowned for hitting the ball straight and his 37 point final score was more than good enough to take the day’s top prize.
Friday, Dec. 8, Burapha – Stableford

3rd Jack Watkins (12) 35pts
Division 2
1st Colin Smith (17) 41pts
2nd Arnold Jones (16) 37pts
3rd Shigeki Toyoshima (20) 34pts
Shigeki Toyoshima once more scaled the podium to take third spot at Burapha in division 2. Arnold Jones scored a fine round of 37 points take the second position, however, there was no stopping Colin Smith as he claimed top spot with 41 points.
In division 1, Jack Watkins claimed third place with a good round of 35 points but the battle for to spot was occurring in the same 4-ball. Seil Peter started on fire and turned with 22 points but his final total was not quite enough. Alan Thomas played the back-9 superbly in one under the card to equal Seil’s score but win the day on count back.
Saturday, Dec. 9, Crystal Bay – Stableford
1st Mike Rushant (11) 37pts
2nd Steve Carlton (08) 36pts
3rd Reg Glass (17) 32pts
Reg Glass started the day poorly but grew stronger as the round progressed to eventually shoot 32 points and take third place.
Steve Carlton also had a good day as he played to his handicap and finished second. But the day once again belonged to Mike Rushant and his 37 points were enough to see him home.
