PSC golf Bunker Boys @ The Ranch

Monday, Dec. 7, Greenwood A & B – Stableford

A large turnout of 8 groups today, and although it was another public holiday, we’d managed to secure a reasonable deal with the management at Greenwood by agreeing to tee off 30 minutes later than normal.  The course was surprisingly quiet and in good condition so the round progressed smoothly, and all the groups completed the round in good time.

There were some excellent scores recorded today with 10 golfers playing to their handicap or better, so Buff had quite a few count backs to sort out back at The Ranch.  Newcomer Bob Duxbury, playing his first game with the Bunker Boys took the overall honours on the day with 39 points, whilst Mike Corner won the B Flight on a count back ahead of the in-form Jack Robertson, both also scoring 39 points.

A Flight

1st Bob Duxbury (13) 39pts

2nd Mark Stanley (11) 38pts

3rd Colin Greig (12) 37pts

B Flight

1st Mike Corner (19) 39pts

2nd Jack Robertson (29) 39pts

3rd Neil Griffin (29) 37pts

Near Pins:  Bob Duxbury, Geoff Parker, Les Burns and Paul Smith.

Wednesday, Dec. 12, Treasure Hill – Stableford

A smaller group of golfers today for our visit to the ever-improving Treasure Hill course.  Following some debate we elected to play off the white tees, having played from the yellows on our previous couple of visits.  The course is a tough test off any tees and the scores on the day reflected the increased difficulty of playing a longer distance of 6,700 yards i.e. 400 yards longer than from the yellow tees.

Neil & ‘Skinny’ have a good day at Crystal Bay. Neil & ‘Skinny’ have a good day at Crystal Bay.

The course was quiet and the weather was good, so the pace of play was better than some of our recent outings.  The improvements around the greens have now almost completely bedded in, so there was no problem with GUR as we’d encountered on our previous visit last month.

Gordon Melia produced the best score of the day to take the honours on a count back ahead of Colin Greig, but some of scores further down the field are best left unmentioned, and once again the course was undoubtedly the real winner on the day.

1st Gordon Melia (16) 31pts

2nd Colin Greig (12) 31pts

3rd Ed Graham (10) 30pts

4th Gary Austin (16) 29pts

Only 3 near pins were claimed with no one managing to hit the green on the infamous second hole: Gary Austin, Gordon Melia and Geoff Parker were the ones on target.

Friday, Dec. 14, Crystal Bay B & A – Stableford

Only 14 golfers today with a large contingent of the Bunker Boys regulars electing to play in the monthly PSC tournament being held at the adjacent Mountain Shadow course.  We were allocated to play the slightly unusual combination of B and A nines, and teed off on schedule in bright and breezy conditions.

The course was in excellent shape, and has now almost completely recovered from the recent heavy rainy season, with the greens running true and fair.

Some great scores were returned with Neil Griffin leading the way, carding his best ever score in Thailand to take the top podium position.

Over refreshments back at The Ranch, the main topic of conversation was “bandits” with the three main culprits occupying the podium positions.  Neil Griffin capped a good day by also taking a near pin prize, with his mate Skinny taking another (nobody can remember when that last happened) and Danish bandit Thomas taking the other two.

1st Neil Griffin (29) 42pts

2nd Tony Scambler (8) 40pts

3rd Thomas Nyborg (17) 39pts

Near Pins: Neil Griffin, Skinny Newton and Thomas Nyborg (2).

Note:  The Bunker Boys are a PSC affiliated golf society, who now play out of The Ranch bar on Pattaya 3rd Road (in front of the fire station, and almost opposite the Buffalo Bar).  We play three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, so if you enjoy a fun day out, and a friendly but competitive golf competition why not come and join us.

We meet at The Ranch at 9 a.m. for breakfast and transportation, and new players are always welcome.  Contact Buff on 086 046 5091 or 080 605 5663 for all enquiries.  You can find all the news, schedules and results on our website at www.bunker society.com.
