Police to deploy over 20,000 officers in Bangkok during NY countdown

Bangkok – The Royal Thai Police is preparing to deploy over 20,000 officers to assist the public and ensure safety during the New Year Countdown.

Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, Pol Maj Gen Montree Yimyam, chaired a meeting with related law enforcement officials and representatives of New Year countdown venues.

Major Montree said officials will be stationed at four of Bangkok’s New Year countdown venues, which are CentralWorld, Khaosan Road, Asiatique, and Crystal Design Center, as well as at 144 temples across Bangkok.

Over 20,000 personnel will be deployed to assist the public, facilitate traffic, and establish security checkpoints across Bangkok. Celebration venues have been asked not to sell alcoholic beverages.
