Monday, Dec. 18, Phoenix – Stableford
Phoenix today in cold conditions as winter arrived with a vengeance. We played the Lakes and Ocean loops and both courses were in great condition.
The scoring today was quite good with Frenchman Gerard Lambert taking the top prize with 38 points, the only player to break handicap. A count-back between 4 players all on 36 points saw Karen Craigie, our lovely visitor from Christchurch, NZ, take second spot, Yves Magnon occupy third and Bob Scott take fourth. Ramsay Smith was the unlucky one to miss out on a prize his 16 points on the back nine didn’t cut the mustard.
There was only one ‘2’, achieved by a stunning approach shot to the par three 7th from Capt Bob.
Wednesday, Dec. 20, Green Valley – Stableford
The temperature had dropped to about 18 degrees and a howling gale was blowing across the course. These unusual conditions had a tormenting effect on the scores with only 3 golfers (all ladies) playing to their handicap from the 9 groups that started the day and only two ‘2’s, by Miss Nu and William Macey.
Despite 2 blobs, Miss On came third in the ladies flight with 37 points while Miss Tan nibbled at the heels of the winner with 39 points but couldn’t quite take top spot, her 18 points on the back nine being shaded by 19 from Miss Nu.
The male participants had a tough day at the office with Alan Beck coming fourth with 31 points, losing on a count-back to Jerry Grocott who could have done better but for 2 blobs in the last three holes. Peter Thomas had 31 points also but just kept his nose in front with 17 on the back nine. Bobby Scott had a steady day with 17 points on each nine to largely overcoming the conditions to take the top prize.
Friday, Dec. 22, Burapha – Stableford
We had 4 groups playing today at Burapha on the A and B loops in beautiful conditions. The course was in fantastic condition with fast greens and some subtle breaks.
Only two players out of 17 didn’t manage to beat 30 points so it can’t have been all bad. There was a 3-way count-back on 35 points for third and fourth, with Gary Ritchie missing out altogether. Dave Bramley took fourth spot with his new clubs while third went to Bob Scott. There was another count-back for the top two places between Miss Sasicha and Peter Thomas, both on 37 points but with Peter edging the lovely lady with a better back nine.
There were two ‘2’s, coming from Rick Culley and Dave Bramley.
