The Royal Thai Navy released 33 sea turtles as part of a coral reef and marine-conservation project initiated by HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana.

Rear Adm. Ronapop Kanchanaphan, deputy commander of the 2st Naval Area, chaired the Jan. 4 ceremony at the Sea Turtle Conservation Center in Sattahip attended by sailors, government officials and district residents.

Ronapop said the princess was concerned about the depletion of Thailand’s seas and the endangered nature of the Green and Hawksbill turtles.

He said the release of the turtles will raise awareness of the issue.
