Monday, Jan. 8, Parichat – Stableford

The start of the second week in 2018 saw the TRGG sampling the delights of Parichat. No one could ever claim that this course is dull with every hole being unique in its own way.
Considering the difficulty of the course here it was quite remarkable that the day’s golf produced three players who scored above their handicap.
Dave Maw and Billy Allan both shot 37 points with Billy having the stronger back 9 to ensure that he would be taking the second position, while Barry Wood played like a man inspired and was good enough to take the day’s top prize.
Tuesday, Jan. 9, Phoenix Gold – Stableford

On Tuesday the society made the short trip across to Phoenix Gold and with the fairways running faster than ever, the feeling was a good score was there for the taking.
In division 2, Mick Folan shot 30 points to claim the third spot while the man who puts the X into experienced, Seamus Farrell, shot 32 to take the silver. This left Norihito Takeoka to claim the top prize with 34 points.
Barry Wood and Reg Glass picked up the minor podium spots in the premier division while Arnold Jones was the only player to shoot his handicap today and his 38 points saw the American home.
Thursday, Jan 11, Khao Kheow – Stableford

2nd Freddy Starbuck (13) 36pts
3rd Barry Wood (12) 35pts
Division 2
1st Thomas Knudsen (29) 32pts
2nd Don Cross (21) 32pts
3rd Bjorn Werner (19) 32pts
Khaow Kow welcomed the TRGG on Thursday and this course always offers the golfers a stern, but fair test. In division 2 three players all finished on 32 points so it was left to the count-back to decide the places and the unluckiest of the three was Bjorn Werner who had to settle for the bronze. Don Cross went one place better to claim silver but the top prize was claimed by Thomas Knudsen.
Barry Wood bravely overcame a rather sore broken finger nail to shoot 35 points in division 1 but Freddy Starbeck’s fine 2017 form returned as he shot 36 points to take second place and it took a mighty fine effort from Paul Colfar to deny the mighty Dane another winning day. A raw score of 4 over par was enough to give “Colfar the golfer” 37 points and take the first prize.
Friday, Jan. 12, Burapha – Stableford

2nd Roger Wilkinson (14) 35pts
3rd Barry Wood (12) 35pts
Division 2
1st Reg Glass (17) 36pts
2nd Jeff Boylan (21) 33pts
3rd Petter Borge (19) 33pts
On Friday the group headed to Burapha and the winner of division 2 was Reg Glass with a level-par 36 points while Jeff Boylan edged Petter Borge for second count-back.
Barry Wood completed 4 podium finishes in 4 rounds of golf to take third place in division 1, Roger Wilkinson shot 35 for second and John Nicholas’s fine 38 points was more than enough to take the division’s top honors.
Saturday, Jan. 13, Pattavia – Stableford
1st Billy Allan (19) 36pts
2nd Geoff Bracegirdle (16) 36pts
3rd Neil Bramley (9) 36pts
Pattavia welcomed the TRGG’s weekend golfers and with the greens at times playing impossibly fast, any score around level handicap would prove to be competitive.
The top three players all finished on 36 points, with Billy Allan’s stronger back-9 seeing him lift the silverware ahead of Geoff Bracegirdle and Neil Bramley in second and third respectively.
