Known for its beauty beyond fascinating landscapes and enchanting hill tribes, Chiang Mai–the Rose of the North–is also known for its annual flower festival. Spanning an area of 10 rai (4 acres or 1.6 hectares), HM the King’s Horticultural Exposition showcases over 100 varieties of flowers.

This year’s horticultural show displays flowers which are native to colder terrains, such as the rare Orange Lily or the famous Holland Tulips. Alongside architectural displays of major worldwide tourist sites, there are also displays of vertical gardens, as well as a tower which provides a vantage point for a 360 degree view of the whole exposition.

Another exhibition taking place is the renowned Royal Flora Rajapruek Show, which is back once again displaying countless varieties of flowers. Graciously granted the name by HM the King in 2010, the government through the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives organised this event in celebration of the 60th anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s accession to the throne in 1950. And this year, marking His Majesty’s 85th Birthday, the flowers are blooming more than ever.

Tasanee Srimonkol, Director Royal Park Rajapruek in Chiang Mai said this year’s show has been gaining more and more popularity. The first day the Park welcomed around 2,000 people, the second day saw approximately 3,000, and yesterday about 4,000 visitors came. It could pass the 300,000 visitors-mark this year.

This year’s theme “Royal Shade at Royal Park Rajapruek” highlights the benevolence of His Majesty the King, Her Majesty the Queen and HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn.

More information about entrance fees and other inquires can be found on the website at www.royalparkrajapruek.org or call 053-114-110-5. Exhibitions open today through February next year.
