Monday, Jan. 15, Treasure Hill – Stableford
There were three divisions out today with the equal cut at 9-14, 15- 17.6 and 18.2+. It was a tough test out there off the yellow tees and 35 was the highest score returned, with Dave Smith posting that to win division 1 ahead of Pete Sumner is second one point behind. Horst Starchl was third with 29 points and Bob Comartin came in fourth with 28.
Barry Stirling won division 3 with 34 points, Andrew Van Der Laan was second on 33, Mike Fitzgerald took third on 30 and William Chang came fourth with 29.
Paul Young’s 32 points topped division 2 and the Irish boy Jerry Mccarthy was second one point behind. Paul Butler filled third spot on 30 and six points behind in fourth place was Harry Vincenzi.
Near pins went to (Div 1) Bob Comartin (2) and Genk Yazici, and (Div 2) Paul Butler, Mike Fitzgerald, Mike Lewis and Barry Stirling.
Paul Butler birdied the 17th to record the only ‘2’ of the day in division 2.
Wednesday, Jan. 17, Plutaluang – Stableford
We played the North and West courses today with three divisions out and with a similar cut as of Monday.
Les Smith, playing off 16 for the last time, won division 1 with 42 points while Paul Young was second on 36. Brian Keating came third on 34 and Pete Sumner with a 14/12 back nine count-back took fourth, beating Bob Comartin.
Bill Kana was the division 3 winner with 37 points, Mike Fitzgerald was second one point behind and Alarn Bissell took third with 35. David Phillips snatched the fourth and final spot with 29 points.
Jim Connelly off the red tees beat Harry Vincenzi on a 18/17 count-back to win division two after they both came in with 32 point. Joseph Toner was third on 31 points and Barry Stirling took fourth, beating Paul Butler on a 17/12 back-nine count-back after they both came in with 29points each.
Near pins were claimed by (Div 1) Les Smith (2), Tom Yahnke and Paul Young, and (Div 2) Paul Butler, Bill Kana, Bryan Rought and Joseph Toner.
Les Smith birdied W8 and Tom Yahnke N6 in division 1 and in division 2 Jim Connelly W8, Bryan Rought W3 and Joseph Toner N6.
Friday, Jan. 19, Eastern Star – Stableford
There were a few moans after today’s round regarding the wicked pin placements and the quickest greens we have played on for some considerable time here. This was reflected in the scores today with ten groups out with the equal cut in three divisions at 8-14, 15-19 and 20+.
The best score returned today was 35 points, with Pete Sumner beating Dennis Scougall on a 21/19 count-back to win division 1. Gerry Dooley was third on 29 and Brian Keating finished fourth after beating Bob Comartin and Ian Speirs on a 21/17/13 back-nine count-back.
John Kelly with 34 was the winner in division 3, with Alan Bissell second on 33 and David Phillips beat Rodney on a 9/8 back-six count-back after they both scored 29 points.
Paul Young won division 2 with 31 points on a count-back over Bill Kana in second and Jerry McCarthy third while John Hughes was fourth on 30 points.
Near pins went to (Div 1) Brian Keating, Dennis Scougall, Dave Smith and Les Smith, and (Div 2) John Hughes, Rod Howett and Finn Olsen.
Gerry Dooley and Brian Keating birdied the 13th and Les Smith the 6th in division 1 for the only ‘2’s of the day.
