Satun, a charming province in Thailand’s south, rests between limestone cliffs, and the beautiful pristine waters of the Andaman Sea. Over the years it has gained popularity as another southern wonder, attracting tourists from all over the globe.
Lipe Island and other islands in Tarutao National Park is a famed destination that Satun is proud to showcase.
With lush green environments and crystal clear water and sand, the peak season attracts tourists from around the world – as well as from Thailand. Up to 80% of the foreign tourists come from Europe, especially Scandinavia, as well as from North America. More importantly, it has also been of major interest to neighbouring Malaysia, as many Malaysians travel to the province, as it is convenient to commute. On the other hand, the peaceful province also accommodates tourists from local near-by provinces, including Songkhla, Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani.
“Tourists enjoy rafting in what is known to locals as the ‘Wang Sai Tong’ route. It is another activity that tourists very much enjoy as the waters here are perfect for rafting all year round,” Darunee Lamchan, Thai News Agency reporter, said.
More recently, the Tourism Authority of Thailand organised business-matching opportunities that enabled entrepreneurs to meet and expand business prospects.
With over 700,000 tourists entering the province last year and generating up to Bt3 billion in revenue, the future looks bright for Satun.
