Bangkok – Thailand has submitted a report on its human trafficking situation to the U.S. Department of State. The government confirms it has been seriously tackling the problem to eradicate human trafficking from the nation.

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Busadi Santiphithak said the report was sent to the U.S. government last Wednesday. Thailand’s revised rank in the U.S.’ human trafficking list is not a priority of the government. More important are the solutions to deal with the issue in a sustainable manner, she said.

The government has allocated more than 3.6 billion baht from its 2018 budget for the problem of human trafficking, said the spokesperson.

Ms. Busadi added that human trafficking offenses dropped last year following the government’s projects and measures. The court is now able to finish a human trafficking case within one year, she said.
