Twenty-two golfers made their way to the Bangpakong course on Monday, which was in pristine condition.

Top of the heap today with forty-two points was Richard Baldotto, looking to make amends for his capitulation in last month’s golfer of the month competition.  Mike Lloyd may reasonably have expected to win today but was beaten into second place on count-back.  Geoff Parker, starting to show some consistency again, took third with thirty-nine points while Keith Norman was fourth and Neil Jones fifth.

Wednesday, Feb. 14, Pleasant Valley & Soi Dao

An unusual day of golf today, eleven of our members stayed on home turf and played the Pleasant Valley course while eight others made their way up to Chantaburi to play the magnificent Soi Dao course.

Pleasant Valley was in its usual good condition and the caddies made a special effort to mark Chinese New Year by wearing red and white outfits.  The winner on the day with a very good score of thirty-nine points was Ian Rattray, followed in second place by Colin Greig with thirty-seven and a full five strokes back in third was Alan Harris.  Near pins went to Ian Rattray, Mike Larsen and two to Alan Harris.

At Soi Dao, we played two rounds, a team comp on the first and individual on the second.  The individual winner with thirty-six points was Michael Brett followed in second by Keith Norman with thirty-three.

The Soi Dao course is quite magnificent, arguably one of the best in Thailand.  Every hole was different and challenging, the greens were very fast with subtle undulations and not easy to read and all around the scenery was breathtaking.  For anyone in Pattaya who hasn’t yet played this course it’s time to put on your to-do list.

Friday, Feb. 16, Pattavia – Stableford

1st Richard Baldotto (19) 42pts

2nd Les Cobban (10) 40pts

3rd Neil Carter (13) 39pts

4th Keith Norman (16) 36pts

5th Richard Mohns (14) 35pts

Near Pins: Gerry Cooney, Peter Kelly, and Les Cobban (2)/

A field of twenty-one played the last round of the week at the Pattavia course.  As always the course was in excellent condition and a slight breeze kept play comfortable, however, the speed of play was less than optimal.  Despite that the standard of scoring was excellent and a number of very good cards were returned. R

Richard Baldotto of the many swings fame has finally hit on one that seems to work consistently and managed to top the list with his second forty-two points for the week.  Remarkably for Les Cobban, forty points was only good enough for second place on this difficult course.  Third went to Neil Carter on thirty-nine with Keith Norman and Richard Mohns filling the minor places.

At the presentation we heard some bad news that one of our members, Eddie Kelly, was struck down with a serious illness while visiting Pattaya and had to be shipped back to the Emerald Isle for treatment.  We are advised that he is now on the mend and everyone at the Bunker Boys wishes Eddie a speedy and full recovery, and look forward to seeing him back on the golf course again soon.
