Pattaya senior citizens began 2013 with merit-making as the city’s Elderly Club invited monks to offer blessings for the New Year.

Club President Pranee Maneesarn welcomed Pattaya deputy mayors Verawat Khakhay and Wattana Chantanawaranon to the Jan. 4 celebration at city hall, along with city council members and bureaucrats.

Nine monks from Wat Nong-oo blessed members and attendees, who presented food to the monks along with flowers. The priests then poured water on the hands of the elderly.

Club members also put on a “dance to invite the lords” and donated 23,330 baht to the club’s welfare fund. City officials added 6,000 baht of their own.
