Nearly 200 Soi Korphai Community residents received payouts from the neighborhood’s community fund aimed at supporting businesses and people in debt.

Fund Director Nikom Saengkaew and community President Wirat Joyjinda presided over the Feb. 21 meeting where 181 people who bought up to five shares in the co-operative savings program received either loans or interest.

The fund currently has 200 members with 2 million baht in equity. Each participating resident makes small monthly payments to the fund and can withdraw up to 30,000 baht at a time to use as they see. Each loan is repaid at a low interest rate.

In addition to disbursements, the meeting also saw those who did not withdraw any money receive a small dividend on their investment.

The fund was established to give opportunities to those in need to potentially start a business, pay debts or for other use.
