PSC Golf from the Bunker Boys

Monday, Feb. 26, The Emerald – Stableford

1st Pat Ryan (13) 37pts

2nd Neil Carter (12) 35pts

3rd Les Cobban (9) 34pts

4th Dave Ashman (19) 33pts

Near Pins: Gary Smith, Neil Jones, Peter Kelly, Neil Carter.

Given the proximity of an away trip to Kabin Buri, a very good number of nineteen rolled up for the first game of the week at the Emerald course.  Extremely heavy overnight rain made the course very wet so the ‘pick, clean and place’ rule was applied.  The course is becoming overrun by so-called buffalo grass, a very coarse broadleaf type of grass hated by most golfers. It is almost impossible to eradicate without completely returfing the course.

Today’s winner, playing his last game before returning to Tipperary, was Pat Ryan with a score of thirty-seven points.  Pat also generously donated six golf shirts to the club so we expect to see some very well attired golfers in the coming weeks.  Second place went to the newlywed Neil Carter who is not only enjoying married life but also his golf with a thirty-five point return.  Third went to the ever-present Les Cobban on thirty-four and Dave Ashman brought up the rear with thirty-three.

We are pleased to report that our good mate from Kells, Co Meath Eddie Kelly is making steady progress in his recovery from an illness contracted on his recent visit to Pattaya.

Tuesday, Feb. 27, Kabin Buri – Stableford

1st Colin Greig (9) 41pts

2nd Dave Stockman (8) 34pts

3rd Mark Walter (14) 34pts

4th Keith Thorn (16) 32pts

Near Pins: Colin Greig, Paul Smith, Keith Thorn, Neil Carter.

Groups from the Players Lounge and the Bunker Boys made their way to Kabin Buri for two games.  Due to heavy overnight rain in the area the ‘pick, clean, and place’ rule was applied, however, it proved unnecessary as the course was in pristine condition.

The weather though was hot and humid and may have influenced the scoring which on the whole was on the low side.  The exception was Colin Greig who continues in a rich vein of form and returned a card of forty-one points.  A distant second was Dave Stockman on thirty-four, with Mark Walter in third on count-back.

Wednesday, Feb. 28, Kabin Buri – Medal

1st Paul Hack (13) net 69

2nd Colin Greig (8) net 73

3rd Neil Carter (12) net 76

4th Geoff Parker (14) net 76

Near Pins: Keith Allen, Paul Smith, Colin Greig (2).

Another hot and humid day for the second day of play which was a medal round, an unforgiving format where one bad hole can undo all the good that came before.

Paul Hack was the one to shine today with a net sixty-nine and a full four strokes ahead of Colin Greig in second place.  Neil Carter took third with seventy-six on count-back from Geoff Parker.

Kabin Buri continues to be an attractive venue for a short away trip with first class accommodation at Serenity Hotel and Spa.

Friday, March 2, Pattavia – Stableford

1st Neil Carter (12) 36pts

2nd Colin Greig (8) 36pts

3rd Geoff Parker (14) 35pts

4th Alan Sullivan (15) 34pts

Near Pins: PJ Redmond, Alan Sullivan, Neil Carter, Colin Greig.

A reasonable group of sixteen made their way to Pattavia for the first game of a new month.  Sanity has finally returned to Pattaya golf with the course relatively uncrowded and the pace of play very comfortable.  A nice breeze was very welcome as it kept the pineapple flies to a minimum and playing conditions comfortable.

Neil Carter took first place with a good thirty-six points on count-back from Colin Greig.  Third went to Geoff Parker on thirty-five points and Alan Sullivan brought up the rear with thirty-four, some consolation having lost all the sixes.

For the third month in a row, golfer of the month went to Colin Greig who won it by a country mile.  This is becoming a bit of a bore and high time for somebody/anybody to step up and offer a challenge.
