Monday, March 5, Khao Kheow – Medal

Nineteen golfers participated in the first medal round of the month at the Khao Kheow club. Conditions were hot and steamy during the front A nine, however, a nice cool breeze blew up on the back C nine which made playing conditions much more pleasant. The course was in fine condition with the exception of a few fairways that had recently been severely scarified leaving holes in some places. As a result, a new local rule was struck whereby it was decided that such areas should be treated as G U R and the ball placed on an unaffected piece of ground no nearer the hole.
Peter Kelly took the honors today with a fine round of seventy. Second went to Pat Ryan who was to have returned to Tipperary last week but had to stay in Pattaya an extra week due to airport closures in Europe. Pat also made a generous donation to the delinquent fund so a free beer for everyone and Slainte to Pat. Third went to Trevor Priestley with a net seventy-four. Rumors are swirling around the club that Trevor, our resident mystery man is about to ring the bell soon, people are even laying bets on when or indeed if it will happen. Last place went to Robbie Watts also on seventy-four on count-back.
Near pins were claimed by Pat Ryan, Neil Carter, Colin Greig, and Ronnie Melvin.
Wednesday, March 7, Greenwood – Stableford
1st Peter Kelly (12) 40pts
2nd Michael Brett (16) 38pts
3rd Les Cobban (9) 37pts
4th Keith Smithson (4) 36pts
Greenwood A and C nines were the venue for today’s round. Another hot and steamy day was in store, thunder rumbled in the sky all day and the threat of rain was ever present, however, the weather gods smiled on us once again and the rain stayed away.
The first groups completed the round in a lively three and a half hours but for some reason, the later groups were a little tardy.
Peter Kelly was in sparkling form again and took first place with an excellent forty points, his second win in a row. Despite a serious bout of the putting yips Michael Brett was able to compile enough points to take second with thirty-eight. The ever-consistent Les Cobban took third with thirty-seven and despite the distraction of a serious bout of epistaxis (nose bleed), Keith Smithson was able to maintain his concentration to take fourth with thirty-six points.
Near pins went to Gez Williams making a rare appearance at the Bunker, Keith Smithson, Alan Sullivan, and Les Cobban.
