Monday, April 9, Phoenix Gold – Stableford
Unfortunately the skills shown by the pros at the previous night’s U.S. Masters failed to inspire most of the golfers today. In fact it was a lady golfer Miss Sasicha, who did not stay up to the early hours of the morning watching TV, who stood on top of the podium with 4 consecutive pars on the back nine to win today with 36 points. Greig Ritchie, dressed in very attractive pink ensemble, had 3 blobs on the back nine but was able to claim 2nd place with 33 points, closely followed by Eric Gobert with a steady 18 holes and 32 points. Sandy Chapo discovered some form on the back nine with 18 points to occupy 4th place with 30 points.
Thiery Petrement had the only ‘2’ today.
Wednesday, April 11, Green Valley – Stableford
We had 14 ladies today entered who into the spirit of Songkran and dressed in traditional Thai outfits, but they were not able to convince the Billabong males to dress similarly. Miss Ooh only occupied 4th place with 39 points, one point behind Miss Wan. Miss Am, who is making a welcome return to golf, lost the count-back on the last six holes mainly due to having only 1 point on both the 17th and 18th holes to Miss On, who is experiencing a rich vein of form at the moment, with 14 points on the six closing holes.
Count-backs were needed to separate all 4 positions for the men with Graham Beaumont trying hard to hang on to the coat tails of Jeff North but his 18 points on the back nine was 1 short of Jeff, both on 35 points. Keith Allen, not having played for a while, spoiled his chances of the top spot with 2 blobs on the return journey and 18 points which was one short of the winner, William Macey, both on 36 points.
Birdie ‘2’s went to Noodle, Porn, Gerard Lambert, Jeff North and Doug Campbell.
Friday, April 13, Burapha – Stableford
Burapha A and B loops on a very hot day and everyone suffered out there. The course was in fantastic condition with greens that were very receptive to hit to and putt on.
We had 5 groups playing and the scoring was exceptional, with count-backs for the winners and for the minor places. The count back for fourth place went to Bob Pearce with 38 points, him beating Graham Beaumont. Third place went to Jeff North with a fine 39 points, second was also in count back territory with Greg Ritchie, playing off his 26 handicap, taking that spot with 40 points, him being beaten by one of his playing partners, Paul Greenaway, also on 40 points.
Out of all the players today there were only 2 that didn’t get 30 or more points, which is no mean feat.
There was only one ‘2’, coming from Brian Wilkinson.
