Car wash operators love Songkran. At least the end of it.

On April 20, a day after nine days of water and powder caked every vehicle in the area, car washes were employing double the staff to handle the backlog of people looking to clean their cars.

Kanda Jueleang, owner of Poseidon Car Care on Soi Photisan, said customers starting queuing up for service at 7 a.m., many of them fearing the chemicals and compounds in the various powders thrown around would eat into their paint.

Staffs had to be well organized to handle the crush, with teams deployed to take orders, do the scrubbing and the drying.

Operators expected to be up to their eyes in bubbles and baht for five days.
