BANGKOK, 15 January 2013 Thailand is set to play host to an international summit on water, scheduled around the middle of May.
The Royal Irrigation Department Director-General Lertviroj Kowattana revealed on Monday that Thailand will host the 2nd Asia-Pacific Water Summit (APWS) during 14-20 May.
The upcoming gathering will take place at the International Convention and Exhibition Center Commemorating HM the King’s 7th Cycle Birthday Anniversary, in Chiang Mai Province.
Mr. Lertviroj said that this year’s meeting is organized under the theme “Water Security: Leadership and Commitment”, with special focus on water disaster challenges.
He added that the 2nd APWS will see the participation of representatives from various Asia-Pacific countries and the United Nations, including policy-makers, experts and practitioners.
In addition to discussions, an interesting exhibition and a seminar on water disaster management will be held to allow participating nations to share their experiences, with Thailand’s success in its handling of the 2011 flood crisis to also be raised before the meeting.
