Chonburi Deputy Gov. Phawat Lertmukhda welcomed Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Surasak Karnjanarat to the Royal Cliff Grand for the opening of the April 24-30 camp for students from the Association of Southeast Asian countries and other East Asian nations.

The event was aimed at driving environmental conservation through youth participation. The kids exchanged experiences, discussed the environment around them, their schools, studies and more.

Thailand’s contingent suggested the other countries pursue environmental conservation by adopting HM King Rama IX’s “sufficiency economy” philosophy which leaders claimed had helped the kingdom improve its environment.

Thai organizers also pushed back against current high-tech communications methods, stressing “standard methods of teaching” to bring the green message to attendees, as well as organizing hands-on activities.

On April 25, the students went to Rayong to view forestry projects and visit the Sea Turtle Conservation Center. The following day they headed out to Manai in Rayong where they learned how coral is planted, while also getting in the water to observe see turtles.

On April 27, the group made a field trip to the Maptaphut industrial zone where they saw how a factory produces polycarbonate. And, finally, on April 28 the kids ventured to Phanat Nikhom District where they were introduced to conservational activities and projects.
