The Pattaya leader of an anti-junta movement called on police to find who smashed up his car in what he believes is a politically motivated attack.

Wanchaloem Khunsaen, a speaker at a March 4 Pattaya Beach “Start-Up People” rally organized by Sirawit “Ja New” Seritiwat and participant in subsequent Bangkok protests calling for elections, said he has been followed and harassed by a group of unknown people who, on May 5, heavily damaged his car while it was parked outside his Eakmongkol 4 Village home on Soi Khao Talo.

Wanchaloem was among several people charged with violating a National Council for Peace and Order directive against political gatherings of more than five people and failing to obtain permission for the rally. He is out on bail pending prosecution.

Nongprue police chief Pol. Col. Chiddecah Songhong said authorities have classified the assault as “malicious damage” and are seriously pursuing leads in the case as the political motive makes it a serious offense.
