Bangkok – The Secretary-General of Thailand’s Office of the Civil Service Commission has assured that the extension of retirement age from the present 60 to 63 is only in the suggestion phase and will not be put into practice until thoroughly studied.
Secretary-General Methinee Thepmanee explained that a suggestion to increase the retirement age was just one of several made under the national reform plan and does not yet have any practical baring.
She affirmed her office is studying the possibility thoroughly and would make any needed legal adjustments while saying that the Civil Service Regulations Act already calls for certain groups in the public sector to have their retirement age changed. It was decided, for the purposes of the act, that posts and offices which require specific knowledge and ability should allow for later retirement.
Implementation of the regulation can be executed in several ways to avoid affecting newer generations of civil servants. Dealing with such issues is being dealt with urgently, as Thailand is among many of the world’s countries anticipating an aged society in the near future.
