Bangkok – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is improving the drainage capacity of Bangkok canals and sewers ahead of the upcoming monsoon season.
BMA officials on Saturday unclogged 1,600 meters of sewers and drainage pipes along Sukhumvit 50 Road in Khlongtoei district. The operation was led by Deputy Bangkok Governor Chakkaphan Phewngam.
According to Chakkaphan, sewer drains were clogged with rubble and brickbats because large trucks and transportation vehicles pass through the area on a daily basis, thus the need to clean and unclog the sewer line every three months.
The operation is part of the BMA’s plan to improve the capital’s drainage capacity ahead of the rainy season.
City Hall is also planning to replace the existing drainage pipes with larger ones to streamline its flood drainage system.
