Bangkok – Energy Minister Siri Jirapongphan says the government will keep the diesel price at no higher than 30 baht per liter in a bid to keep transportation costs low.
The Minister said measures are being put in place to mitigate the impact of rising fuel prices. He added there is no need for trucks and public bus operators to raise their fares if they switch to B20 biodiesel.
Meanwhile, the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has begun to decline after rising from 353 to 393 baht per 15 kg-tank as LPG demand in Europe is decreasing.
To help people cope with the higher LPG prices for the time being, the Energy Policy and Planning Office will subsidize cooking gas by 10 baht, which will bring the price down to 363 baht per tank.
Regarding public concerns over the possibility of rising electricity prices, the Energy Minister said that electricity bills won’t change this year as Thailand relies mostly on natural gas for the production of electricity.
He added that the Ministry of Energy will do its best to lessen the impact of rising fuel prices on electricity bills to keep the cost of living affordable.
