PATTAYA – The rainy season is staring us in the face, but Nongprue Mayor Mai Chaiyanit says he is ready.

Mayor Mai said 90% of ongoing construction projects are completed as of May 31, and the rest will be finished by 2019. Last year, he said, many of the projects were still underway causing the area to suffer heavier than normal flooding. This year, he says, that won’t be the case.

Finished projects include canal clearance along the railway road near Moo 11 and 12 to make sure the water flows into Naklua Canal without backing up. Rubbish, tree branches and mud has been, or is being, dug up and removed to help facilitate water flow and prevent floods. Pattaya City Council has been removing buildings and facilities encroaching all local canals as well.

Almost completed are construction projects in Baan Lang, Baan Nongsamoh and Raiwanasin Market. A new drainage tunnel is being worked on at Prapanimit Road, and the original tunnels are being replaced. Pumps have been installed around the construction area to drain the floods away while the contractors carry on with their work.

The Meteorological Department announced the official rainy season is here and we should expect heavy rain storms in the near future throughout Thailand, continuing until the end of October.
