PSC Golf from The Billabong Bar

Monday, June 4, Phoenix Gold – Stableford

We played Phoenix Lakes and Ocean from very forward tees today, but still a challenge. The course was in fantastic condition as it prepares for the ELGA tournament and the Queens Cup so the rough was rough and the pin placements were either very forward or very back.

Two of our Aussie visitors acquitted themselves well with Steve Rawlings getting beaten in a three-way count back all on 39 points, out of 18 players there were only 3 that didn’t make 30 plus points.

Taking third spot with 39 points as stated prior on a count back was Thiery Temime, second went to Gerard Lambert with 40 points and the winner was Greig Ritchie with his best round in a long time, scoring a great 42 points.

There was only one ‘2’, coming from Peter Seil.

Wednesday, June 6, Treasure Hill/
Phoenix Gold – Stabledford

Today the sun gods smiled sweetly on those from the Billabong and the day was perfect for golf. A 4-day competition at Green Valley demanded alternative arrangements so the male members of the Billabong played at Treasure Hill which was in good condition but the greens were a bit two paced, very slow uphill and very quick downhill. 42 players started the day but, somehow we lost one on the way, for only 41 finished.

Thiery Petrement needed a countback to occupy fourth place, his 33 points not helped by having only 2 points on three consecutive holes starting at No. 7. Adam Farrell also struggled on the last 2 holes for 35 points but regular visitor to these shores, Bob Scott, had 2 blobs on the back nine which did not help his cause finishing second on 36. The Billabong’s own Hercule Poirot, Gerard Lambert, had 21 points on the front nine and 17 on the return for a winning 38 points.

Three ‘2’s came from Lloyd Shuttleworth, Gerard Lambert (missing a hole in one by the width of a hair) and Adam Farrell.

The ladies at Phoenix also had a good day with Miss Na having 9 pars but not quite making the podium in fourth while Miss Sasicha ran out of steam on the back nine 7 points lower. In second Miss Am had four 1-pointers on the way home which took the shine off her score of 40 points, losing on a countback to Miss May who had a remarkable day with 10 pars and 1 birdie for 21 points on the last 9 holes.

Friday, June 8, Burapha – Stableford

We had 5 groups playing Burapha A and B loops today and the course was in great condition, so with carts on the fairways no winter rules were applied and it was play it as it lies.

The scores were great considering the elements with a count back for the minor places between Sasicha and Lloyd Shuttleworth, both on 37 points, with Lloyd getting relegated to fourth and Sasicha taking third spot. It was the same at the top with Bob Scott taking second and the lovely May getting the big prize after both returned 40 points overall.

There were four ‘2’s, coming from Miss Sasicha, Sandy Chapo, Helmut and Lloyd Shuttleworth.
