Patience is the key

Last week I was bemoaning the ups and downs of playing golf and this week my advice is “stay patient and good things will happen”.

On Monday 14th January at Eastern Star I took my own advice and good things did happen.  Eastern Star is a very tricky course with plenty of water hazards and it requires good course management to avoid losing plenty of golf balls.  I think it is better to be straight rather than long and after an indifferent start I kept telling myself I could play better and with a bit of patience I totted up 33pts, didn’t lose any balls and finished in third place.

Barry Wood (10) was another guy who had a good round and continued where he left off last week by taking the honours with 36pts.  Mick Robinson (16) pipped me on count back, also finishing on 33pts, to take second place.

On Tuesday 15th January the TRGG faithful headed off to play Greenwood (B and C courses) which is a far more forgiving course where the long hitters come into their own.  Tristan Gilbert (9) who always belts the ball a country mile finished way out in front with 39pts.  Jeff Bunn (6), who is normally straight and long, crept into second place but only on count back on 36pts.  Mike Rushant (11) was the one to lose out and finished third.

Thursday 17th January saw a change of venue from our normal Thursday outing at Phoenix as they were holding a large tournament that day.  So we headed off to play Plutaluang (South and East), the navy course.

My playing partner from Monday, Ken Brehm (21), also took my advice about patience and brought his A game along and took first place with 36pts.  He was followed home by Ted Senior (14) in second on 32pts and Barry Wood in third on 31.

On Friday 18th January TRGG rounded off the week by taking a large turnout to play Bangpra (B and A courses).  So large was the field it was divided into two divisions.  Div 1 was for up to 11 handicap and Div 2 was for 12 handicap and above.

Division 1 was headed by Alan Harris (10) with 34pts, followed by Fergus Brennan (11) in second on 33 and Jeff Bunn (6) in third on 30.

Division 2 saw Davd Dunne (19) take first place with 33pts followed by Jim Cleaver (12) in second on 31 and Donald Pearson (33) in third on 29pts

Good luck to all you golfers for the coming week and stay patient!
