PSC Golf from The Billabong Bar
Monday, June 25, King’s Naga – Stableford
King’s Naga was the venue for the Billabong on Monday and it was the first time we had visited this course. Apart from the greens being sanded it was a pleasure to play on and in the views of the players it would rate up there with the best. When the greens get better we will certainly visit more often.
With only 10 players and nobody else on the course we played two 5-balls and it was ‘millionaire golf’ and took only about 4 hours to get around. Apart from one or two spots on the course that were tucked away behind trees that stopped the breeze from getting to you, the day was perfect for golf.
The scoring was surprising as well with Gary Player taking third spot with a fine 35 points. Second went to the departing Bob Scott with 38 points and taking the main event was Paul Greenaway with 39.
There was only one ‘2’, coming from Gary Ritchie.
Wednesday, June 27, Green Valley – Medal
It certainly rained on our parade today, starting gently and building to a crescendo later in the round sufficient to stop play for 30 minutes. Although Brian Chapman, the chief executive of Haven Consultants Financial Consultants, our favourite sponsors, was unable to play today he joined us on the 1st tee to wish everyone well in this month’s medal.
As you can imagine, the waterlogged fairways did not allow any roll on your shot and many of the golfers played the first nine with a burst of energy only to fade like a damp quib with the arrival of heavy rain.
This was case for Miss Prae who had 2 quadruple bogies on the back nine but still finished with a net 71, losing to Miss Pin on count-back and also to Miss Poopay who birdied the 1st hole and kept her game together for a net 71 and first place. Jeff North double bogied the 12th and 14th for third place with a net 70, one behind Arch Armstrong who bucked the trend and increased his homeward score by 6 shots with a net 69. His double bogey, however, on the 17th was his undoing as his playing partner Jason Barnett had a steady round for a net 68 and left to a rousing chorus of ‘leaving on a jet plane’ for his departure and evening flight to the UK.
We had two ‘2’s today, going to Jeff North and Tony Oakes.
Friday, June 29, Plutaluang – Scramble
The monthly scramble was held at Plutaluang on the East and South course in perfect conditions for golf. The course was in magnificent condition and the greens were just fantastic to putt on.
The scoring was good, as it normally is at this course, with the winners being in the 50s net. Third spot went to the Billabong B team consisting of Greig Ritchie, Bob Newell, Sasicha Duangham and Sandy Chapo with a great score of 59.9. The team of Stan Rees, Willem Lasonder, Dave Smith and Daniel came second with 58.4, and taking the top spot was the quartet of Arch Armstrong, Gary Ritchie, Chris Dodd and Paul Hack with a fine score of 56.9.
Next month will be back at Phoenix, but August will be at Plutaluang again.
